CONTINUING DANGER AT THE RED ROAD FLATS

It was a major victory for campaigners and local people near the Red Road to have the demolition cancelled at the launch of the Commonwealth Games.  However, it is clear that Glasgow Housing Association will want to demolish the 5 flats within a short space of time, i.e. on the same day.  GHA want to demolish the 5 flats at once because it is the cheapest way to demolish flats.  It is clear that the safety of local people is being ignored.  To this end, I will be making representations to the Health & Safety Executive to become involved in this planned demolition so that health and safety is the major consideration and not the cost of demolition.  I would prefer that the 5 flats be taken down floor by floor and not demolished, as this would be the safest method.  However, if demolition is going to go ahead, it is clear they have to be done one flat at a time with plenty of time in between to ensure safety.  It is imperative that the Health & Safety Executive become involved to ensure the health and safety of local people.

I last posted on 19 March the fact that flying debris travelled 700 yards, piercing the wall of Ann Booth’s home in Germiston.  I will conclude this posting by saying clearly that any resident who is affected by this should come to our next meeting on Thursday 24 April at 7 p.m. at the Jury Inn Hotel, Jamaica Street, Glasgow.
